Marcin Kolasa (Museum of the History of Kielce) Iconographic Sources for the History of the Polish Legions in the Collection of the Museum of the History of Kielce Iconography concerning the Polish Legions includes almost 300 objects registered in more than 40 registry entries. The largest group comprises photographs of the Legions: portraits and group photographs as well as reportage photos. Most of them are collected in two albums. The album by Franciszek Tomsa - Zapolski, soldier of the 1st and the 5th Infantry Regiments of the Polish Legions as well as a recruiting officer of the Military Department of the Supreme national Committee, includes portraits and group photographs of his comrades as well as photographs documenting places where the army stationed and various military events. In turn, the album of the 4th Infantry Regiment from the period if fighting in Volhynia (1915 – 1916) shows a fragment of the Regiment’s combat route. It contains photographs of scenes of fighting as well as group portraits, graves of soldiers, scenes from the life at the front and from the period of the construction and operation of the so-called Rojowe housing estate near Optowa and Legionowo. The museum collection also includes postcards, published in the so-called ‘patriotic’ series by the Supreme National Committee and ‘Salon Malarzy Polskich’ and ‘Polonia’ publishing houses from Krakow. A painting by Stanisław Prauss titled ‘Legion Scene among the Rocks’ (oil on plywood, 1930s) is also connected with the topic of Legions. The painting shows Józef Piłsudski with officers at a break during the march of legionnaires. A unique exhibit is a jogger of Franciszek Gabriel Kietliński – Odrowąż, soldier of the 1st Calvary Regiment interned in Szczypiorno and Łomża. It contains poems, short stories, a satirical evening program and 15 illustrations depicting scenes from camp life, caricatures and landscapes.
