Kamila Cybulska (Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce) Women in the Movement for Independence in the Kielce Region in 1914–1918 The article entitled ‘Women in the Movement for Independence in the Kielce Region in 1914-1918’ is an attempt to present the participation of women in the Kielce region (the then Kielce guberniya/province with the capital of the region in Kielce) in the efforts to gain independence. The Great War created favorable conditions to increase the presence of women in public life and to redefine the scope of their civic duties. The article characterizes local communities of Polish irredentism, also referred to as left-wing independence movement comprising, among other, the following organizations: Regional Council of Kielce Region, Polish Military Organization as well as Women’s League for War Alert. The main aim of the article was to present the role and involvement of women who worked in those organizations for the independence of Poland and in order to obtain full civil rights. Additionally, the article presents some biographies of women from the Kielce region, such as Wanda Filipkowa, Kazimiera Grunterówna and Zofia Zawiszanka.
