Marek Maciągowski (Centre of the Patriotic and Civil Thought in Kielce) Kielce in Memories of Mosze Nachum Jerozolimski Diary from the Times of World War I by Kielce rabbi Mosze Nachum Jerozolimski (1855 – 1916), covering the period from 31 July 1915 to 20 April 1915, is a unique and little known source for the history of Kielce. The diary depicts the city in the first months of World War I, events that took place in Kielce at that time as well as a complicated situation of Jews uncertain of their fate in the face of a changing political and military situation. The diary speaks directly of the attitude of Kielce Jewish community towards the movement for independence as well as describes relations between Kielce inhabitants, Poles and Jews, and the representatives of authorities, Russians, Austrians and Germans. It makes it possible to assess the attitude of religious Jews towards the Polish fight for independence and their conservative attitude towards the ongoing events.
