Marek Maciągowski (Centre of the Patriotic and Civil Thought in Kielce) War Testimony of Priest Szczepan Domagała The memoirs of Priest Szczepan Domagała, an administrator of Karczówka Parish, arrested by the Nazis on 10 February 1941 in Kielce, a prisoner of the Kielce prison and the Nazi concentration camps in Auschwitz (camp number 13,170) and Dachau (camp number 25,285) are an interesting testimony of war reality. The manuscript is a very personal and emotional description of events in which the author participated or which he observed. The memoirs start with a detailed description of the priest’s arrest in Karczówka. Next, the author bears witness to those imprisoned in the Kielce prison as well as brutal interrogations and court trials. The following pages of the memoirs present a description of horrible living conditions of prisoners of Auschwitz and Dachau German concentration camps, where Priest Domagała stayed with other imprisoned priests, including Józef Pawłowski, vicar of the Cathedral parish, Wojciech Michałowicz, a Salesian missionary and a vicar of the Holy Cross parish church in Kielce, and Franciszek Mazurek, archivist and professor of the Higher Theological Seminary in Kielce. The testimony of priest Domagała is an important source of information about the history of Kielce, valuable due to the fact that it has never been published. The only fragments of the memoirs known to the public are those used as a testimony to the torture of Blessed Józef Pawłowski, Domagała’s co-prisoner.
