Marta Karpińska (Cracow) Architecture as Platform for Community Narration. Wacław Nowakowski’s Activity in Kielce in 1919–1924 Wacław Nowakowski (1888 – 1955), one of the most interesting architects of the Second Republic of Poland, worked in Kielce and in the Kielce region in the period from 1919 to 1924, during which he designed several buildings constituting local administrative support and social infrastructure of the Polish State reconstructed being reconstructed after the First World War. The buildings can be described as model examples of Polish architecture in a very specific moment of history. The political objective of the new state was to create community narration which would facilitate the management of post-partition heritage. Architecture and its symbolic message were to play an important role in that process. Similarly to other architects of that time, Wacław Nowalowski drew his inspiration from historicizing forms and designed buildings in the search of Polish national style. His projects from the so-called Kielce period reflect not only certain trends in style but also political, social and cultural reality in which the Second Republic of Poland was formed.
