Krzysztof Urbański (Pedagogical University of Cracow) More questions than answers The present article is devoted to the life of Bernard Bronisław Zelinger and a part of his family in the Second World War. Almost all members of the Zelinger family died in the extermination of Jews planned by the Nazis on the territory of the occupied Poland. The major part of the article describes the events that took place in February 1944, when a detachment of the Home Army, which was to kill the informer Kripo (Stefan Sawa), killed all the inhabitants residing in a house indicated in their command. Among the victims there were Jews hiding in the house (including two children). The author describes the tragic events and their unclear circumstances on the basis on the memoirs of Zelinger published in the book entitled “Into Harm’s Way” (issued in 2004 in the USA) and an article by Jadwiga Karolczak published in 1993 in “Słowo Ludu” local daily paper. The second part of the article is devoted directly to B. Zelinger, who avoided extermination and after the war worked briefly for the Security Office.
