Research on the history of Solidarity Trade Union of the Świętokrzyski Region has entered its initial stage. Apart from a few articles and memories of Solidarity members, there are no works devoted to the most important issues and problems connected with the activities of this large social and political organization. The outline of the history of Solidarity of the Świętokrzyski Region covering the first 10 months is an introduction to the presentation of some documents drawn up by members of the independent trade union movement (including Constitutional Act of September 13, 1980) as well as four other documents prepared in the 3rd Division of State Militia in Kielce on exposing Solidarity Trade Union. The sources, presented for the first time, refer to the history of the opposition movement and social resistance against the communist regime in the Kielce Province in the years 1980 – 1981, presenting to the readers issues that future historians will need to tackle. The trade union’s structures and the most prominent activists, the influence of Solidarity on the development of social and political situation in Poland, methods of fighting with the opposition employed by Security Services are just some issues presented in the quoted materials. Hopefully, the materials presented will trigger the accounts and recollections of the participants of those events which in urn will extend the existing sources on the basis of which researches will attempt to describe modern history of the Kielce region.
