A holding centre in Kielce The issues connected with the scale of internments in the Świetokrzyski Region have not so far been thoroughly researched. Apart from some fragmentary comparisons, there is no full list of people interned during the marshal law. During the analysis of the materials, numerous ambiguities as well as research problems appear which need to be solved in order to present a final version of the list. At present, only a general list of internees can be presented. There is no information given as to a reason for internment, whether it was political or other, and also no information whether a person collaborated with Communist Security Service. Additionally, the list comprises people, who belonged to the structures of the Świętokrzyska opposition although they were not registered as permanent residents in the Kielce province. The present list focuses on the problem of internments in the Świętokrzyski Region and at the same time constitutes an excellent basis for further research. What is more, on the basis of available source materials as well as witnesses’ reports, a description of a holding centre in Kielce is presented. It presents everyday life and activities of people detained in the centre, includes a description of the cells and their equipment, sanitary conditions, food and other related issues.
