Bogdan Zalewski Fragments of Family Chronicle Ed. W. Matwin, A. Rembalski Bogdan Zalewski (11 June 1901 – 22 June 1994) wrote a ‘Family Chronicle’ at the beginning of the 1970s. In one part of it that was published he included memories from his school years and his activities in a scouting team at the background of the history of Kielce, his hometown. He wrote about carefree childhood as well as his teachers and school friends from the Kielce School of Commerce. In his diary, Zalewski depicts urban character of Kielce and the life of its inhabitants. Together with his friends and relatives he survived the outbreak of World War I and the incursion of Piłsudski riflemen into Kielce on 12 August 1914. Part of the chronicle is devoted to his activities in the First Scouting Team in Kielce. Scouting played an important role in the life of young people in Kielce. This part of the diary finishes with the author’s movement to Tczew where in 1921 he started studying at a newly opened Nautical School. Key words: scouts movement, Kielce
