Lidia Michalska-Bracha (Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce) Władysław Dziadosz (1893-1980) – Kielce Voivode and a ‘Guardian of Memory of the Legions’ The present article focuses on the figure of Władysław Dziadosz – legionnaire, vice president of the Union of Polish Legionnaires (1931-1934) and Kielce governor in the years 1934-1939 – depicted in a larger context of Polish Legions’ tradition. Following such an approach, Dziadosz biography has become the pretext for reflections on society’s cultural memory of the Second Republic, when the legend of the Polish Legions and Józef Piłsudski was significantly associated with the activities of administrative authorities at various levels. The research perspective adopted in this article enabled to trace various forms and manifestations of social and political activities of Władysław Dziadosz as a soldier of 5th Infantry Regiment of the Polish Legions, then the reborn Polish Army, an activist of combatant organizations and associations, a civil servant in state administration of the Second Republic and finally as a ‘guardian of memory of the Legions’ and a member of the Supreme Committee for the Commemoration of Marshal Józef Piłsudski (1935 – 1939). The research on the biography of Władysław Dziadosz is hindered by the lack of wider and uniform source basis, mostly referring to the legacy of the governor of Kielce. Consequently, the findings were based on archival materials from the resources of the Archive of New Files and the State Archive in Kielce.
