Hubert Mazur (State Archive in Kielce) Sources on the History of Kielce Churches in the Files of State Archive in Kielce The main aim of the present article is to discuss and present archival material related to Kielce churches. The review of the archival files and documents has led to several conclusions. Undoubtedly, there are documents in the State Archive in Kielce which can be used as useful sources for the research on the history of Catholic Church in Kielce. The majority of the documents was created in the period before the partitions of Poland by state administration bodies at the guberniya (district) level (Guberniya Authorities of Radom, Guberniya Authorities of Kielce, Kielce Governor’s Office) or by city authorities (The City of Kielce Statute). The following 3 archival files were established on the basis of documents provided by offices of various church institutions (Diaconate of Kielce, Kielce Church Supervision, Congregation of Curate Priests of Kielce Collegiate Church). Most of the documents in question refer to material issues of churches and church institutions, renovation and construction investments and to a smaller extent to religious issues. The archival documents from the interwar period are of similar character, however, the number of files is smaller (Kielce Voivodeship Office I, Kielce Poviat Staroste Office I, Kielce City Statute). There are more archival documents referring to the Catholic Church in Kielce in the period of the People’s Republic of Poland, which is connected with the surveillance of the structures of Roman Catholic Church by communist authorities reflected in the files at the voivodeship level (Kielce Voivodeship Office II, Voivodeship Office in Kielce). The materials are connected with the establishment of new parishes and religious education facilities, construction, maintenance and renovation of churches, personal issues and relations between the state and the church. The documents are supplemented by architectural drawings and technical projects of buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are also some maps and photographs. The majority of documents has been drawn up in Polish, with the exception of the documents from the files of the Kielce Guberniya Authorities, Kielce Governor’s Office, Kielce Church Supervision and partly from Kielce City Statute. Thanks to the large number of documents and their contents, they can be used a supplementary source of information while conducting research on the history of the Roman Catholic Church.
