Joanna Sztejbnis-Zdyb (Uniwersytet Humanistyczno-Przyrodniczy Jana Kochanowskiego w Kielcach) Symphonic Orchestra in the Eyes of the Kielce Press in the years 1945- 1958 The establishment of the Regional Symphonic Orchestra in Kielce in July 1945 was an event of great importance. The contribution of the Orchestra to the cultural output of the region in the years 1945-1958 was significant despite the difficulties faced by the company in that time. The orchestra’s artistic activity was noticed and socially approved. Continuous attempts to develop music life in Kielce were undoubtedly one of the greatest merits of the Regional Symphonic Orchestra and an interest of the local press. The opening of “Słowo Ludu” daily paper in September 1949 paved the way for permanent presence of music critique across the pages of the newspaper. In 1949-1958, critics of the music life in Kielce were: Stefania Heiman-Majewska, Czesław Michniak, Adam Miętus and Świętosław Krawczyński. The relations between the Orchestra and the local press were good and music critique was factual and friendly, focusing mostly on positive elements of the Orchestra’s artistic activities. The analysis of the reviews published in 1945-1958 leads to the conclusion that they were well portrayed in the local press.
